Captain Al Martin, Hilton Head Island Fishing Charters, Knows Experience Counts

When it comes to experience, Captain Al has been fishing the waters of Hilton Head Island for more than 4 decades. He started fishing for trout, flounder and red fish on the creeks and oyster banks around Hilton Head and Daufuskie Island at a very young age with his father. His dad was probably one of the best at catching trout and spot tail bass in the area, and the local fisherman back then said he was an artist when it came to catching speckled trout and red fish.  Al says he had a great teacher and still uses those methods today. It really doesn’t matter if you’re fishing inshore or offshore, when you know how to fish the tides and have the right bait and hopefully a few fish around, you might just have some luck.

Al has been a licensed captain for 37 years and licensed commercial fisherman in the South Atlantic fisheries from the start. He was a pro guide for inshore and offshore fishing charters out of Shelter Cove Marina in Palmetto Dunes Resort for several decades. He owned and started the Gullah Gal in 1983 and the Marshtacky in 1993. The ocean was his office for many years.

Al started Buckeye Charters a many years ago and has moved to the north end of Hilton Head Island at the Hilton Head Boathouse at 405 Squire Pope Road. This location is half the travel time to productive fishing grounds.
